Trafford Council has published its strategic masterplan for the regeneration of Trafford Wharfside, a 150-hectare site centred around Manchester United’s proposed new stadium.
The masterplan has been developed with Greater Manchester Combined Authority, Transport for Greater Manchester, the Old Trafford Regeneration Mayoral Development Corporation and Manchester United Football Club, and was prepared by architects Allies and Morrison, engineers Civic, planning consultants JLL and landscape architects SLA.
The plan sets out a long-term, sports-led approach to development in the area and was presented at a launch event at Old Trafford, attended by local businesses, schools, charities and community groups.
The regeneration area, at the north-eastern corner of the borough of Trafford, covers 150 hectares south of Salford Quays and east of Trafford Park industrial estate. Its boundaries are Europa Way, Manchester Ship Canal and the Manchester to Liverpool railway line.
It is due to go before Trafford's Executive Committee on 20 July for consideration. If approved, a public consultation will run from 28 July to 22 September, with a final decision to follow once residents' feedback has been reviewed.
