A ‘spreadsheet issue’ led to over 6,550 votes being excluded from the declaration of the election result in the Putney constituency at the general election.

Wandsworth Council, which is responsible for the Battersea, Putney and Tooting constituencies, confirmed the error has been corrected.

What the council describes as a ‘spreadsheet issue’ did not affect the election result or the order of the candidates.

A statement on the council website said: ‘While we are confident this was an isolated incident, we are taking this opportunity to review processes with a particular focus on spreadsheet procedures.’

A spokesperson from Wandsworth Council added: ‘The Acting Returning Officer has apologised to all candidates and agents.’
