Ice cream vans in South Cambridgeshire could soon face restrictions on how long they play their chimes.

The council described licensing and enforcing rules for ice cream traders as ‘challenging’ and has proposed a more ‘flexible approach.’

Under the new proposal, vans would be allowed to play their loudspeakers only between 12:00 and 19:00, with each chime lasting no more than 12 seconds.

Traders would also need permission from the local parish or town council and nearby schools before operating in a specific area.
