The BBC has announced that seven UK cities have been shortlisted to host the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest.

The cities - Birmingham, Glasgow, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle and Sheffield - have been selected due to their 'capacity, capability and experience' to host such an event.

All the cities have also shown how they will reflect Ukrainian culture, music and communities in the event to mark the fact Ukraine won this year’s Eurovision Song Contest.

Kate Phillips, BBC’s director unscripted content, said: 'Congratulations to Birmingham, Glasgow, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle and Sheffield - it’s exciting to see such a breadth of bids going through from across the UK.

'We are committed to delivering a truly unique Song Contest that celebrates wonderful Ukraine and champions British music and creativity in all its diversity.'

The final decision will be determined by which city or region scores highest against an agreed evaluation criteria, assessed by the BBC. The successful city will be announced in the Autumn.
