Scottish councils call for National Insurance rise funding image

The Convention of Scottish Local Authorities has called on Holyrood to pass on Whitehall cash due from changes to employers' National Insurance Contributions.

The changes have been estimated to introduce a direct cost of at least £265m for Scottish local government before additional costs for commissioned services in the third and independent sector have been taken into account. This comes on top of a £392m budget gap in 2025/26.
