A Local Government delegation representing all 11 councils in Northern Ireland attended a special reception hosted by their Majesties’ The King and Queen, at St. James’s Palace on February 3.

Local government representatives from across Northern Ireland were honoured at a special reception hosted by Their Majesties The King and Queen.

The event, which took place at St. James’s Palace on Tuesday (3 February), recognised the vital contribution of those working in local government, particularly staff delivering essential frontline services to communities every day.

Attendees represented all 11 councils and a wide range of service areas, including community safety, environmental services, economic development and wellbeing.

Northern Ireland Local Government Association (NILGA) President Cllr Billy Webb MBE, a councillor of nearly 30 years, said the event shone a light on ‘extraordinary people who keep our communities running day in and day out.’

He praised workers both on the frontline and behind the scenes for their dedication, resilience and commitment to public service, describing them as ‘the very best of public service’ and often working beyond the spotlight.
