A minister has been forced to clarify that Oflog is not attempting to replace the council audit system.

In response to a question from Labour local government spokesperson in the House of Lords, Baroness Hayman of Ullock, Government whip Lord Evans of Rainow incorrectly suggested that Oflog would ‘do the financial audit’.

However, local government minister Lee Rowley has since confirmed ‘there is no attempt to replace’ the system of local council audits and that Oflog ‘will need to work out how they complement’.

A Government spokesperson confirmed that Lord Evans of Rainow was wrong and suggested Hansard would be corrected, although they were unable to disclose when this would happen.
