Weaknesses in councils' financial sustainability and governance are increasing, according to evidence uncovered in a newly-published report.

Grant Thornton's report ‘Lessons from recent auditor's annual reports' reviewed 92 auditor's annual reports from 2022-23, finding ‘escalating rates of significant weakness' in areas such as sustainability, governance, performance management and procurement.
