Communities Secretary Steve Reed is writing to council leaders across England and Wales to confirm that pubs and bars will be allowed to stay open until 5am on Monday for the World Cup.
He will also thank them for approving Temporary Event Notices throughout the competition.
The extension will allow fans to watch England's last-16 clash against Mexico, which kicks off at 1am, without venues needing to apply individually for their own licence extensions.
The Home Secretary used powers to extend licensing hours for occasions of national significance, building on similar extensions already granted for England's earlier knock-out matches.
Michael Kill, CEO of the Night Time Industries Association (NTIA), welcomed the news as ‘fantastic’, adding the World Cup will deliver a ‘significant boost’ to hospitality businesses.
