A parish council in Greater Manchester has been dissolved after councillors reported experiencing intolerable levels of abuse.
All councillors on Carrington Parish Council have resigned due to receiving abusive phone calls and 'disgusting' hate mail.
They also reported their homes being watched and their personal details being shared.
A statement from the council said: 'The levels of vitriol that have been aimed at the council have caused an untold amount of stress and anxiety on all our members.
'Unfortunately it has reached the point that all the councillors feel their positions are no longer tenable.'
All responsibilities have been transferred to Trafford Council and the incidents have been referred to the police.
