Heritage tourism has generated over £16bn in spending by domestic and international visitors so far this year.
Historic England has published its new report into the value generated by the country’s heritage sites, such as historic buildings.
Heritage and the Economy 2017 shows heritage tourism has brought in £16.4bn this year and has directly contributed £11.9bn in Gross Value Added (GVA) - equivalent to 2% of national GVA.
There are also 278,000 people employed in heritage, and the repair and maintenance of historic buildings has directly generated £9.6bn in construction sector output.
