Nottinghamshire County Council has declared a major incident as Storm Henk causes near-record levels of flooding.

The council and its partner agencies are advising residents in areas along the Trent Valley to be prepared for flooding as forecasts suggest the River Trent could reach its highest levels since 2000.

Tributaries which feed into the river have reached their peaks and high-water levels will now pass down the Trent, which is likely to lead to properties and roads being flooded, the council warned.

‘Residents who live in the flood risk areas are being asked to ensure they have preparations in place in case they are asked to evacuate,’ a council statement said.

By Friday midday there were still 268 flood warnings for England and Wales.
