More than £1bn to be invested in ‘crumbling’ schools  image

The Government has confirmed that £1.4bn will be allocated in the Budget to rebuild ‘crumbling’ schools.

Around £1.8bn to support the expansion of Government-funded childcare will also be included in the Budget on Wednesday.

Chancellor Rachel Reeves said over the weekend that the Government’s first Budget would ‘fix the foundations of the country’ by investing in education and rebuilding schools.

Secretary of State for Education Bridget Phillipson added: ‘Our inheritance may be dire, but I will never accept that any child should learn in a crumbling classroom.

‘We are determined to break down those barriers to opportunity, whether it’s brilliant early years, free breakfast clubs or high and rising standards in our schools, this Government is putting education back at the forefront of national life.’
