Man pleads guilty to assaulting council worker and beating dog

A man has pleaded guilty to animal cruelty and assault, after he was caught on CCTV beating a dog in Chelmsford city centre.

James Gilbert, 32, also punched a male council worker who tired to intervene in the incident.

Mr Gilbert has admitted the charges at Chelmsford Magistrates' Court, and will remain in custody until he is sentenced 25 August 2015.

Both the council worker and the dog avoided any serious injuries.
