The chief executive of Leicestershire County Council is set to retire after what is believed to be a record-breaking three decades in the role.

John Sinnott told senior elected leaders of his intention to retire before the local elections but has agreed to stay on to help the Reform minority administration settle in.

Sinnott has held the chief executive role since 1994 and is believed to be the longest-serving local authority chief executive in the country.
