Local government staff recognised in New Year's Honours list

Council chief executives and leaders have been named in the 2016 New Year's Honours list.

Communities secretary Greg Clark congratulated those named in this year's list, saying they have been made an 'extraordinary contribution' to society.

He said: 'Congratulations to everyone in local government, the fire service, housing and the voluntary sector who were recognised in this year’s New Year Honours list.

'These individuals have made an extraordinary contribution to society and I am delighted that they have been honoured in this way.'

Andrew Smith, chief executive at Hampshire County Council has received a CBE for services to local government. John Weighell, lately leader of North Yorkshire County Council, Dr Josephine Farrar, chief executive of Bath and North East Somerset Council, Malcolm Morley, chief executive of Harlow Council and Peter Fleming, leader of Sevenoaks District Council all received an OBE for services to local government.
