Local government leaders recognised in 2026 New Year honours list image

The 2026 New Year honours list has highlighted a group of senior local government figures for their dedication to public service across the UK.

Beverley Anne Craig, leader of Manchester City Council, is recognised for services to local government, reflecting her leadership of one of the country’s largest cities. Claire Kathleen Holland, leader of Lambeth Council, is also honoured for her contribution to local government and community leadership in London.

Sarah Norman, chief executive of Barnsley Council, receives recognition for her work in local government, alongside Susan Anne Goodchild, councillor at Central Bedfordshire Council, honoured for services to local government and the community in Bedfordshire.

Franklin Owusu-Antwi, councillor and chair of South Gloucestershire Council, is acknowledged for services to local government in the area. Vivienne Elizabeth Fullerton, a Registrar in Newtownabbey, County Antrim, is recognised for services to local government in Northern Ireland.

Martin Anthony Tett, councillor and former leader of Buckinghamshire Council, is honoured for political and public service in Buckinghamshire.
