A partnership of three district councils has backed the idea of becoming a unitary to help secure a Lincolnshire-wide devolution deal.
Lincolnshire is currently made up of unitary authorities North Lincolnshire and North East Lincolnshire while the rest of the county is two-tier, including seven districts.
Leader of East Lindsey District Council Cllr Craig Leyland has written to local government secretary Michael Gove about the Partnership’s ambitions for the unitarisation of Lincolnshire.
Lincolnshire CC has argued for a single county unitary sitting alongside the two existing northern unitaries.
The three districts have also called for a mayoral devolution deal.
Boston leader Paul Skinner added: ‘You probably get more money for doing it that way.’
Mr Gove has yet to publicly express a view.
The MJ understands Lincolnshire is one of several authorities in discussions with ministers about a potential devolution deal.
Up to six further deals are expected to be rolled out by the end of the year.
