Work is set to begin on the construction of 53 council homes at a derelict school site in Leicester.
The two school buildings had stood empty for more than a decade and were demolished in 2022, supported by £360,000 of government funding.
Leicester City Council has appointed construction firm GEDA to build 44 houses and nine flats on the site.
Assistant city mayor for housing Elly Cutkelvin said: ‘We’ve set out an ambitious programme of creating new housing to try to meet the city’s urgent housing needs.
‘Building new council houses to replace those lost to the Right to Buy scheme over the last few decades is an essential part of that.’
The homes are expected to be completed by next summer.
