A landlord has been ordered to pay £37,000 after Barnet Council inspectors found 18 people, including children, sharing a home in Edgware.
Following complaints from neighbours, council inspectors entered the property to discover the three-bed terraced house had been converted into eight bedsits, causing ‘extreme’ overcrowding.
The property was also being operated without a licence, did not meet safety standards and had an inadequate fire alarm system, while the garden was filled with rubbish.
Landlord Charles Egbiremolen was found guilty of nine offences at Willesden Magistrates Court and described by the judge as a ‘classic rogue landlord’.
