Lancashire County Council's Cabinet has agreed to withdraw from its role as coordinating authority for refugee resettlement schemes across the county, following a review of its involvement.
The council will notify the Home Office of its intention to cease administering the schemes, with coordination responsibilities for existing and new cases transferring through a managed process.
Administrative duties will end no later than 31 March 2027.
Cllr Joshua Roberts, Cabinet Member for Rural Affairs, Environment and Communities, said the decision relates to administration rather than support for refugees living in Lancashire, and pledged a ‘safe and managed transition.’
The report noted there is no statutory requirement for the council to hold the role.
The move comes as national resettlement schemes wind down and Lancashire prepares for local government reorganisation.
