Lancashire County Council has set out plans to spend a government grant on ‘urgent’ repairs at 61 schools.

Based on previous allocations of the Department for Education’s annual funding for schools condition, the local authority has calculated that it should receive £14m for 2025-26.

The works will include roof replacement, asbestos removal, external wall repairs and improvements to schools’ heating systems.

A council report says repairs would be prioritised if they would ‘prevent immediate closure of premises and/or address an immediate high risk to the health and safety of occupants and/or remedy a serious breach of legislation’.

But it warned that due to the finite budget, it would not be possible to address all high priority works in all schools.
