Chancellor Reeves is expected to announce plans to provide libraries for every primary school across the country.

To support the 1,700 schools that lack libraries at present, it is said that dormant assets worth £132.5m will be released as funding for the project.

The Chancellor is due to reveal the Government’s aims at the Labour party conference today, during which she will reportedly discuss plans to improve opportunities and early life for children in England.

Paul Whiteman, general secretary at school leaders' union NAHT, said: 'Additional funding for those schools that haven't been able to afford a library to date is welcome. Some schools may face challenges in terms of space and staffing, but we hope they will be able to use this funding to help with that.'
