Mayor of London, Sir Sadiq Khan, has condemned Donald Trump as ‘racist, sexist, misogynistic and Islamophobic’ after the president attacked him at the United Nations.

Speaking at the UN General Assembly yesterday, Trump said London had ‘a terrible, terrible mayor, and it's been changed, it's been so changed’, adding: ‘Now they want to go to Sharia law.’

In response, Sir Sadiq told the BBC: ‘People are wondering what it is about this Muslim mayor who leads a liberal, multi-cultural, progressive and successful city, that means I appear to be living rent-free inside Donald Trump's head.’

Pushed on whether the American president’s comments were Islamophobic, the mayor added: ‘I think President Trump has shown he is racist, he is sexist, he is misogynistic and he is Islamophobic.’
