Ipswich Borough Council has unveiled its new draft corporate strategy, which aims to create a ‘prosperous and sustainable future’ for the borough.
The council announced that reviving the town centre would be its ‘number one priority’ and said it would work to make its streets safe.
The strategy sets out the council's plans to meet the borough’s housing needs by building more council homes and working to attract home builders.
Ipswich BC said it would ‘take practical and decisive action’ on the climate emergency and become a carbon neutral council by 2023.
It also said it would promote community wellbeing by working to tackle inequalities and ensuring that everyone has access to local facilities.
Councillor Neil MacDonald, leader of Ipswich BC, said: ‘Our corporate strategy reflects our commitment to building a thriving Ipswich that leaves no one behind.
‘We believe that by working together with our communities, local businesses, and partners, we can achieve sustainable growth, improve the quality of life for all residents, and create a town that we can all be proud of.’
The strategy will be debated at a council meeting on 26 July.
