Herefordshire councils reimbursed for flooding costs

Local authority areas in Herefordshire are to be reimbursed for costs incurred as a result of flooding.

Herefordshire, alongside other counties in the West Midlands and the North, has been hit by severe flooding in recent months.

In Hereford at least 20 homes were flooded in October and people were forced to evacuate parts of the city.

The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government activated the Bellwin scheme on Saturday to reimburse eligible councils in Herefordshire for the costs incurred responding to the flooding.

Under the scheme, local authorities can apply to have 100% of the costs, above a threshold, reimbursed by the Government. This could be for items including rest centres, temporary accommodation and staff overtime.?
