Cash-strapped Havering Council could net around £8m by selling off a number of sites, including four car parks.

The local authority, which warned in January it might be forced to declare effective bankruptcy, could dispose of the four car parks and two other sites to the council-owned Mercury Land Holdings.

A spokesperson for the council, said: ‘Havering Council has earmarked various sites for potential sale as part of the Asset Disposal Programme 2022-2028, to generate capital receipts.’

They added: ‘Mercury Holdings Limited is the development company that is wholly owned by Havering Council seeking to deliver these much-needed budget savings and new homes for local people.’
