The Regulator of Social Housing (RSH) has highlighted the importance of strong governance in ensuring tenants have access to more and better homes.
Publishing its first annual review of regulatory casework since the launch of its new inspection programme in April 2024, RSH said the report provides valuable lessons for councils, housing associations and for-profit providers.
The regulator stressed that landlords must maintain robust data on the safety and quality of homes, ensure effective oversight from boards and councillors, and embed tenants’ views into decision-making. They are also expected to manage financial viability to prioritise value for money and refer themselves to RSH if standards are not met.
Chief Executive Fiona MacGregor said: 'Landlords should carefully consider the insights from today’s report to see how they can improve their ways of working and outcomes for tenants.'
Since April 2024, RSH has published over 100 regulatory judgements.
