Glastonbury arena to be made from recycled plastic

An arena at Glastonbury Festival is to be built from waste plastic that has been recycled by Exeter City Council.

The council will process 10 tonnes of plastic that will be collected by volunteers from beaches, parks and streets across the South-West.

The plastic will be used to build the dance arena at Shangri-La Glastonbury Festival, providing a backdrop for electronic DJs and AV artists.

The clean-up is being organised by a collaboration between Orca Sound Project, Shangri-La and Keep Britain Tidy.

Allison Ogden-Newton, CEO of Keep Britain Tidy, said: ‘This ground-breaking project will see tonnes of plastic removed from our environment – where it has such devastating consequences on our wildlife and marine life – and put to good use.

’By working together, we are showing the world that the plastic we no longer want or need can be recycled and turned into something that is both exciting and useful.’
