Fire up Northern Powerhouse 2.0, urges Osborne image

Former chancellor George Osborne has urged the Government to ‘fire up Northern Powerhouse 2.0’ as he backed more devolution for the North.

Speaking at the Conservative’s Northern Research Group (NRG) Conference in Doncaster, Mr Osborne called for new ‘Transpennine transport links and investment in science and tech’ for the region.

In an effort to breathe new life into the flagship initiative he launched while in office, Mr Osborne said the Northern Powerhouse had a ‘distinct economic vision’ and there were a cluster of Northern cities sufficiently close to each other that – collectively – could act as a global player.
