A pilot scheme allowing residents to hire electric buggies has been launched in the London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham in an effort to combat traffic congestion.

The Neighbourhood Electric Vehicles (NEVs), which can be unlocked via a phone app, are insured and can be driven legally on the roads at a maximum speed of 20 mph.

According to Yo-Go, the company that provides the NEVs, if every car in Hammersmith & Fulham drove just five miles less per week, it would remove more than 10 million miles of traffic from the borough's roads each year.

A Hammersmith & Fulham Council spokesperson commented: ‘These innovative electric buggies are another first for H&F as they offer residents and businesses an affordable, eco-friendly alternative. We welcome this pilot as we work to make local journeys cheaper, greener and more convenient.’
