The elections system is under ‘increasing strain' and ‘likely to fail' if put under further pressure, officers have warned.
Writing to ministers in Westminster, the Scottish Parliament and Welsh Senedd ahead of today's Makerfield by-election, the Association of Electoral Administrators (AEA) said that while votes were delivered successfully in local elections last month the system was under ‘increasing strain'.
