Durham County Council has successfully secured over £6m in funding to tackle homelessness.
The money is from the Government's Single Homeless Accommodation Programme (SHAP), which is aimed at securing housing for people aged 18 to 25 years who are sleeping rough.
The funding includes £2.7m from Homes England for the provision of 32 new bed spaces in supported accommodation.
The local authority has also allocated £1.8m towards the cost of providing this accommodation.
Cllr James Rowlandson, cabinet member for resources, investment, and assets, said: ‘We are pleased to have been successful in our bid for SHAP funding. In County Durham, we are committed to breaking the cycle of homelessness and supporting people to live well and lead independent lives. This funding will help us to continue providing this support.’
