Dorset councils owed £45m in council tax

Dorset's two main councils are owed more than £45m in council tax arrears from the last three years, a new study has revealed.

Dorset Council and BCP Council were owed £26.8m and £21.4m respectively from bills issued between April 2021 to 2024. As of 1 August, the figure for Dorset Council was down to £23.61m.

The figures, which were uncovered by freedom of information requests to both councils by Accident Claims Advice, represent 62,487 accounts across both unitary authorities.

A spokesperson for Dorset Council said they ‘actively pursue arrears of council tax using the lawful tools available.’
