District reconsiders joining combined authority

Stratford-on-Avon District Council has confirmed it will join the West Midlands combined authority, after voting not to become a member three months ago.

The council has now decided to reverse the previous decision taken in October last year.

Chair of the combined authority’s shadow board, Cllr Bob Sleigh, said that noted that the council would not become a member until later this year as a public consultation had already started.

He said: ‘The council will be welcome around the shadow board table until its formal membership can be progressed.’

Cllr Chris Saint, leader of Stratford-on-Avon District Council said: 'We have always been a big believer in partnership working and where you cannot do things on your own, joining a partnership gives you greater resilience, greater freedom and greater spending powers allowing us to make sure our district benefits as much as possible.'
