Unpaid London congestion charges owed by diplomats have hit nearly £165m, according to figures from Transport for London.

The embassies of the United States, China, Japan and India currently hold the largest debts, according to the transport body.

A TfL spokesperson reminded the diplomatic corps that diplomats and consular staff are ‘not exempt from paying the congestion charge’ and said the body would continue to chase any outstanding charges.
