The levelling up department has been blasted for failing to deliver its remit by a senior sector figure.
Vice-chair of the Special Interest Group of Municipal Authorities, Graham Chapman, told Parliament that the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC) had actively designed local government finance settlements that have exacerbated the gap between the haves and have-nots since 2010.
Giving evidence to the Levelling Up, Housing and Communities Committee today, Cllr Chapman said: ‘What has happened is that not only is the quantum not enough, but what has happened over the last 10 years… the poorer the council, the more they have lost.’
