Local authorities in some of the most deprived areas have raised concerns about the Government's freeing of hundreds of inmates early.

A draft Budget submission by the Special Interest Group of Municipal Authorities, which represents metropolitan and unitary councils, said the early prisoner release policy was an ‘area of concern for our members'.
