A town council chief has accused residents of Leigh-on-Sea of committing criminal damage with a leaflet and ‘adhesive tape’.

Bernard Arscott, chairman of Leigh-on-Sea Town Council, claimed members damaged the noticeboard’s Perspex covering with the tape used to attach a leaflet.

According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, the Conservative councillor has made a police report claiming criminal damage.

Town councillor Carole Mulroney commented: ‘A little bit of soap and water would take care of it. It beggars belief.’
