Council to use DNA to crack down on fly tipping

A county council is to start using DNA technology to identify and prosecute on fly tippers.

Isle of Anglesey County Council has taken the ‘hard lined’ approach following an incident where over a tonne of rubbish was dumped in the area. The rubbish took its waste management team over four hours to clean up and the council is now working with North Wales Police to find the culprits.

Carys Roberts, who heads the council’s fly-tipping criminal investigation team, said: ‘Fly-tipping is dangerous and anti-social. This particular incident could easily have caused a road traffic accident with some poor individual driving their vehicle into it. We are determined to find these irresponsible people who have committed a crime and prosecute them.’
