Two vehicles allegedly used to illegally dump waste have been seized by Bolton Council in the first week of its new waste crime strategy.
Under the Control of Pollution (Amendment) Act 1989 and the Environmental Protection Act 1990, the council can seize vehicles that are used for fly-tipping or being used by an unregistered waste carrier.
Both registered keepers of the vehicles will be prosecuted and, if convicted, the council will take ownership of them under the new rules.
Executive cabinet member for regulatory services, Sue Haworth, said: ‘Fly-tipping blights communities and this council is committed to eradicating waste crime from our borough.
‘The seizure of vehicles is another way to deter persistent offenders.’
