Newark and Sherwood District Council has pledged £1m to support the restoration of a historic castle after costs escalate.
The project has received £4.4m in Government and lottery funding but council leader Paul Peacock warned ‘prices have increased and continue to do so.’
‘This project is more than ten years in the making, and we are committed to delivering it,’ said Cllr Peacock.
‘We are custodians of the Castle; it is an iconic entrance to Newark, an important destination and a brilliant free attraction for our community, visitors and schools. To not protect it for future generations would be irresponsible.’
