Wyre Council has been forced to remove the contact details of parish and town council members due to the amount of ‘inappropriate’ emails in the wake of the disappearance of Nicola Bulley.
Forty-five-year-old Nicola Bulley vanished two weeks ago on a riverside dog walk in St Michael's on Wyre, Lancashire.
Following Ms Bulley’s disappearance, local councillors have received what the council describes as ‘inappropriate emails and phone calls’.
In response, the council has decided to temporarily remove a number of contact details of parish and town councillors.
Cllr Michael Vincent, leader of Wyre Council, said: ‘We appreciate the emotional gravity of the situation, however we will not tolerate any form of abuse of any of our elected members of Wyre Borough Council or any of the town and parish councils within our borders or our staff.’
He added that ‘appropriate steps’ were being taken to ensure that residents are still able to contact their elected representatives.
