Council crematorium holds service with wrong body

Coventry City Council has launched an investigation after a funeral service took place at a council-run crematorium with the wrong body.

The mistake, which occurred in November, was discovered after the family sat through the funeral service but just before the body was cremated.

In a statement, the council said they had given their ‘heartfelt apologies’ to the deceased’s family who were unaware of the incident at the time.

A council spokesperson has confirmed that the local authority will be reviewing procedures and will make ‘any necessary changes’.

Two members of the city council’s staff will also face a disciplinary process.
