Local government leaders have backed a call to provide more financial support to smaller creative industries which can ‘drive local growth.’

Research from Creative UK and the Creative Industries Policy & Evidence Centre has set out the barriers to finance and funding in the creative industries.

It found that creative organisations have a higher appetite for growth than businesses in other sectors (72% vs 59%) – but were over four times more likely to face financing obstacles.

Responding to the report, Cllr Liz Green, chair of the Local Government Association’s Culture, Tourism and Sport Board, said: ‘Councils strongly support this call for bespoke finance support for smaller creative industries which can in turn drive local growth.’
