Buckinghamshire Council served a repairs notice on the listed property used in the Batman Begins film due to its declining condition.
The notice ‘requires the owner to undertake appropriate repairs to the Grade I listed building’, Mentmore Towers, which the council says ‘has fallen into an increasingly worsening state of disrepair over recent years’.
The local authority has told owner of the home that a minimum of three bat emergence surveys must be carried out, as well as a detailed assessment by a bat licensed ecologist.
In the council's Ecology Screening Visit Response, it was revealed that evidence of bats was found in multiple rooms in the house, which was used as Wayne Manor in the 2005 Batman film – the first of the trilogy.
Peter Strachan, Buckinghamshire Council's Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Planning, said: ‘Under the terms of the notice, the owner will have a set period of time to address the issues raised and will need to demonstrate that action is being taken to appoint surveyors within one month of the notice being served. Failure to do so may result in further action being taken.
‘Mentmore Towers is a building of both local and national significance, and the council seeks to work with the current owner to bring about proper conservation of the property.’
