The newly formed Cheshire and Warrington Combined Authority (CWCA) has held its inaugural board meeting, marking a significant moment for the region.

Cheshire West and Chester Council leader Cllr Louise Gittins has been appointed as the first chair of the CWCA board, whose members include the leaders and deputy leaders of Cheshire West and Chester, Cheshire East Council and Warrington Council.

Cllr Gittins told the BBC the first meeting as a ‘genuine milestone,’ adding that the choice of venue — Warrington Youth Zone — was a ‘statement of intent and ambition’ to keep young people ‘at the heart’ of the authority's work.

'We will work closely with the Liverpool City Region, Greater Manchester and Wales, but want to do it differently here and I think that's what's so exciting about it all,’ she added.
