Club used in the film The Full Monty ‘temporarily’ saved

The planned demolition of the working men’s club used in the film The Full Monty has been temporarily postponed.

Sheffield Council's planning officers refused an application to bulldoze Shiregreen Working Men's club, which featured in the successful 1997 movie, due to ‘insufficient information’.

‘A decision has been made to refuse the prior notification application for the demolition of Shiregreen Working Men’s Club,’ said Michael Johnson, planning service manager at Sheffield City Council.

‘This was as a result of insufficient information being available in relation to the subsequent restoration of the site, which is a requirement of this application type.’

The news follows a petition, which was signed by 1,000 people, to save the iconic club.
