East Devon DC chief executive Mark Williams has announced his retirement.

His departure follows calls for his resignation from opposition councillors earlier this year over the handling of serious allegations made against former councillor John Humphreys.

But an independent report said that it had found ‘no reliable evidence’ that Mr Williams was aware of an investigation.

Humphreys was jailed for 21 years in 2021 after being convicted of three counts of serious sexual assault and seven of indecent assault against two boys in the 1990s and 2000s.
