Care home bosses disqualified for diverting £500,000 of council money

‘Reckless’ care home bosses have been disqualified for diverting council funds and abandoning elderly residents.

The bosses, husband and wife Darren and Emma Lloyd, and director Adrian Lloyd failed to provide adequate services to residents or pay key suppliers and staff after running into financial difficulties.

They also abandoned two care homes, forcing two local authorities to make emergency payments to support residents. They also had to reimburse staff’s wages and relocate the residents.

The local authority responsible for paying some of the residents fees also found more than £500,000 had been paid into Darren Lloyd’s bank account. He was unable to account for more than £290,000 of that amount.

David Brooks, chief investigator for the Insolvency Service, said: ‘Darren, Adrian and Emma Lloyd were unscrupulous care home bosses.

'Not only were they culpable for diverting more than £500,000 of funds intended for the care of their residents but they abandoned the people they were responsible for and left staff and local authorities to step in and pick up the pieces.’
